it's been a while (over two years, in fact) since i updated the 'things which' on the right side there, just under the ferrousland button on the front page. i just put in a new one now.

thought i'd better check to see if there were any others i'd accidentally left in draft mode. there are two:
- smiley-isms (from a hell of a long time ago)
- the law of attraction (from not quite as long a time ago)

i just found an entry from a week or so ago week which i forgot to change from draft mode. it's a whinge about the university's dreadful intranet. it's here, now not in draft mode & able to be viewed.

i just realised i've been blogging in the wrong time zone for the past couple of weeks or so since i've been back. heh. so if the times have seemed odd (not that i've ever really looked at the times on other people's blogs), then now you know why. should be right now, though.

no comments allowed! - 10:02 AM
oops! someone just alerted me to the fact that nobody could comment on my site. i thought there might have been some accidental blocking of an ip address or something, because one of the last things i did was to block an ip address of a spammer.
i'd noticed that the page open on the administration & publishing side of my site (viewable only to me) was the ip address blocking section. i did wonder why, but hadn't thought any more of it until someone told me they were blocked.
on closer inspection, i saw that on an occasion when smiley had been playing on my computer, he'd blocked an ip address with no numbers. obivously, this meant that no one at all could comment! he's clever that kid. i think we need to get him his own computer really soon & he can change as many settings on it as he likes instead of doing it to our computers & then leaving us wondering how on earth he got there & how on earth we can change it back!
anyway, the no comments allowed thing should be all fixed by now. please email me if you still have any problems .. & if you were trying to leave a comment, you can try again.

not upgraded yet - 10:47 AM
btw, i haven't actually upgraded mt on ferrousland yet. it took so long to download the backup i made, that i left it running after i went to bed. i may or may not get a chance to upgrade it today. there are quite a number of things to do before i can actually put up the newer mt files.

upgrade mt - 08:47 PM
i'm about to upgrade mt (movable type, which is what ferrousland runs on) so if my blog suddenly dies or goes all freaky, you'll know why. heh.
i'm sick of comment spam & mt blacklist just doesn't seem to be cutting it anymore, so i hope that by upgrading mt i can get a better plugin for avoiding the spam.

mailing address updated - 09:59 AM
not that many of you send me snail mail, but just in case you do, i've now updated my snail mail address with the best address to reach me in bahrain.
it's not my home address. i've been told by a reputable source that getting mail to a normal street address is not terribly reliable. 99% unreliable, in fact!
don't ask me what the (c) in the address means. i have no idea, but apparently it's required. maybe it's c for coralie?

stupid email - 08:10 AM
i still can't get email working with the smtp settings which are given on the the batelco site (the only phone & internet carrier in bahrain) so i've given up & am going to use my gmail email to receive comments from my site. at least this way i can reply to comments.
apologies to those who've made comments to which i haven't replied. i should be able to reply much easier now.

i just realised how long it's been since i've put up new pics of smiley: early may!! wow. oops. heh. *blushes*
i have heaps of really lovely pics of him since that time, i just haven't got around to putting them up. i'll try to do some more before we head off to bahrain.

stupid internal server errors - 11:02 PM
i apologise to anyone who's left a comment to which i haven't replied. i almost always reply to comments. the only reason i would have not replied is because the comment didn't get emailed to me as it should & i was unaware that there was even a comment, which is what happens if you comment & get that infernal 'internal server error' instead of being returned to the entry to which you were commenting.
at times i go through checking the latest comments, but it's really easy to miss them .. so if you thought i was ignoring you or just being rude & not replying, or whatever you thought, it's not the case! i just didn't know the comment was there.
