real men
a real man would never use women's soap.
have you ever noticed how butch they make the descriptions on men's body care products? listen to this, this is from the back of a bottle of 'lynx apollo all over shower gel': "an invigorating body shampoo for use from head to toe in a choice of bold masculine fragrances." the directions read: "apply by pouring directly into open hand (or onto cloth) then massage into skin to work up lather."
how about the description of the product? there are no words such as 'moisturising' or 'cleansing' to be found. they're all tough words like (assume gruff man's voice here) 'invigorating' & 'bold'. even the directions are so very macho. there'll be no fluffy puff-balls here, this stuff goes straight on the hand!! as we all know, no real man uses a cleansing puff. they do mention the use of a cloth, but it's in brackets, almost like an afterthought, as if to say, "but you know you don't need a cloth, real men use their bare hands."
even the name of the product gives visions of virile, man-like activities: 'apollo' .. get it? like the apollo spacecraft. what could be more manly than being an astronaut?
it makes me laugh. if i was sitting around the table with a bunch of marketing people, coming up with the packaging & marketing for these products, i know i wouldn't be able to keep a straight face.
I buy by what it smells like too. And if I like the bottle that also helps
No real man uses a cleansing puff, huh? Well, I'm a young man (25) and not only do I use a cleansing puff, but I've been using one since 1998. I've used it with both men's and women's shower gels/body washes and to top it all of, I'm heterosexual.
apollo to me says man-god who is the absolute perfect epitome of masculinity
i don't know about anyone else, but we don't choose stuff by it's name.. we look at the price and smell it to see if we like it. reading the name on the bottle is almost an afterthought!
