the caesarian - 11:42 PM

some pictures to go along with the diary entry describing the caesarian section which brought our darling riley into the world:

  1. anxious girl. i was rather worked up about the actual operation.
  2. still worried. you can see them behind me getting ready to administer the epidural. i couldn't see any of this going on .. thank goodness. it probably would have freaked me right out.
  3. shroom was the best & held my hand or stroked my arm the whole time.
  4. riley, our gorgeous little man, moments after his birth at 6:50pm on thursday the 11th of september 2003.
  5. the paediatrician attending to him. his breathing was a bit laboured (they say that the epidural drugs can do that) so they gave him oxygen.
  6. the weigh-in. 2830 grams, or about six pounds & three ounces.
  7. i finally got to meet my darling baby boy.
  8. my obstetrician, shroom & myself in recovery. you can just see riley behind shroom, in the temperature & oxygen controlled crib thing.
  9. self portrait of me at about 6:30am the next morning, tired from lack of sleep from the come down from the morphine & pining for my baby, whom i hadn't seen since the recovery room as he was in the special care nursery. i didn't think to ask for them to take me to him.

Thanks for sharing this. I find the first pic of the little man particularly amazing. I've see the birth of all 4 of my kids and it feels different when I see a birth moments after a c-section. Different, but still beautiful.

Hello again sweetie, even if such amazing techi stuff had been available when your cousin was born, I doubt I would have had the energy to take advantage, well done girl and he is very beautiful and a Virgo child which make him extra special!
