things which make me wonder
how it is that when i directly address shroom in a loud, clear voice, he won't hear me, but when i mumble something to myself under my breath, he hears every word & responds to it.
an example. the kitchen stove fan is on & is making a lot of noise (as they do). i test the pasta & say quietly to myself, barely audible, "hmm, two minutes." he then asks me, "what's two minutes?"
i could understand why he'd choose not to hear me if i was asking him to do something, or if i was nagging him, but i don't nag (it's true, you can ask him!) & when i do ask him to do something for me he always hears it & even jumps up to do it straight away. the things he doesn't hear is when i'm just telling him about something that i got up to during the day, or some general observance or something.
oh well, there are plenty of things he could do which would be far worse. i can handle a bit of selective hearing. 
I do that to people all the time, it's just that when people are telling me something I tend to not listen to them, but I am really listening to them, I just may be in the middle of something, or just busy. So I act like I don't hear or something.
