baby bird

mrs greenleaf was really nice.

when i was in kindergarten, mrs greenleaf, one of my teachers, brought in a baby bird that had fallen out of his nest into her backyard. he was really tiny & looked so frail, with soft fuzz all over his body & a really skinny little neck.

mrs greenleaf let me have a go at feeding the little bird bits of bread that had been soaking in warm water. i scooped a piece of the bread up on one tiny finger & put it into the bird's mouth but he didn't just eat the bread, he sucked on my whole finger! it felt all warm & gooey in there but he was too cute for me to be grossed out about it.

i don't remember what happened to the little bird after that, i just remember being allowed to feed him. mrs greenleaf was pretty cool to let me do that.
