boiling the kettle
a long time ago, when i was about thirteen, i guess, myself & a friend went to another friend's place after school. she offered us a hot drink & i was going to make them. i think we were having a hot milo, if i remember correctly.
this friend had an electric kettle. i don't think they were all that new, but we still had a stove top kettle which you had to put on the heat to make it boil. this was the first electric kettle i'd ever personally used.
i filled it up & pressed the button & very quickly, it was making what sounded like boiling noises. so i merrily made us a milo each.
my friend tried hers & exclaimed that it was only luke warm. silly me, the kettle hadn't even begun to boil. i'd thought that the noises that electric kettles make was the water boiling. i guess it was only the element inside beginning to heat up. on the stove, our kettle would only make those sounds when the water was already bubbling away. i felt pretty silly about that.
