car stealing
a friend & i were discussing, via email, contact lenses versus glasses & i related the following story to him:
my car was stolen a long time ago. in the glove box, i had the one & only pair of prescription sunglasses i've ever owned which i'd taken about ten years to finally get around to organising after years of driving into the sun feeling as though my eyeballs were trying to crawl into the back of my head. when i got the car back i found they'd emptied out the glove box & i suppose had thrown my prescription sunglasses out the window or something, because they were nowhere to be found. all that was left of them was the case.
due to a story too irrelevant & boring to tell here, i also had a child's plastic baby doll in the car, literally rolling around on the floor behind the driver's seat. they'd ripped the doll's head & legs off & left its headless & legless torso. they'd also ripped out the stereo (which, incidentally, didn't work) so i stuck the doll's body in the gap which was left. its torso & a couple of arms sticking straight out (as though it was saying "hug me?") were left stuck in that space the whole time i owned the car. it was a good conversation starter after people got over thinking i was some type of freak enough to actually ask about it.
the people who had stolen my car had eventually abandoned it on the side of the road with no petrol left in it & when i found it, there was a really large blue tarpaulin in the back, big enough to cover the whole car, which i assume they probably did over the ten or so days before they'd dumped it on the side of the road. i actually thought it was a fair trade: a really big, good quality tarp for my broken stereo.
