lentil soup

i used to live on my own in a little duplex. one bedroom, combined kitchen/lounge: it was a pretty cool little place. one night i cooked myself a big pot of lentil soup with carrots, lentils, potatoes. delicious! after it was ready, i ate a big serving & left the pot on the stove with the lid off so i could put it in the fridge a little later once it had cooled down a bit.

in the morning, i woke up & wandered, bleary-eyed, into the kitchen. as i walked across the kitchen i saw that i'd forgotten to put my soup in the fridge. i'd left it out overnight with no lid.

as i got closer to the sink, i noticed that there were some muddy animal footprints, perhaps from a possum, on the bench near the sink. there were a set of glass louvres above the kitchen sink which i used to leave open most times to allow some air to flow, so it must have climbed through the louvres during the night.

i followed the muddy prints around the sink, along the bench & into my soup!!! the prints continued along the edge of the stove, & were now not muddy, but lentily! now you know how some soups get thicker as they cool? well, my little visitor had left a clear paw imprint in my previously delicious, thick soup. the little bugger had stood in my soup!

i haven't been able to bring myself to eat lentil soup since then.
